Safeguarding

We are committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where every young person can enjoy football and progress with confidence.

Our safeguarding commitment

Halfspace upholds the highest safeguarding standards in line with The FA guidance and UK legislation. All coaches are Enhanced DBS-checked and trained in Safeguarding and Emergency First Aid. We maintain clear supervision ratios, safe venues, and robust reporting procedures.

Safer recruitment

Enhanced DBS checks, reference checks, induction training, and probation for new staff and volunteers.

Training & compliance

Annual Safeguarding and First Aid refreshers; clear Codes of Conduct for coaches, players and parents.

Reporting & support

Simple, confidential reporting routes with a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) overseeing all cases.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Name: Dee Afia
Email: halfspaceacademy@gmail.com

If a child is at immediate risk of harm, call 999.

Key procedures

How to raise a concern
  1. Record facts (date/time, people present, what was said/done). Do not investigate.
  2. Report to the DSL at the earliest opportunity via email/phone above.
  3. In an emergency or if you cannot reach the DSL, contact Police (999) or Local Authority Children’s Services.
Supervision ratios & late collection
We maintain age-appropriate ratios. Persistent late collection will be logged and followed up. Children are supervised at all times until collected by an approved adult.
Medical, injury & first aid
Coaches carry first aid kits and log all incidents. Parents must inform us of medical needs. We follow return-to-play guidance for injuries, including concussion protocols.
Photography, filming & social media
We obtain consent for photos/video. Images are used respectfully for coaching analysis and communications; no personal details are linked publicly without consent. Parents may opt out at any time.
Anti-bullying, equality & inclusion
Zero tolerance for bullying, harassment or discrimination. We promote respectful behaviour and equitable access for all players.
Transport, trips & weather
Parents are responsible for transport unless specified. For away trips we conduct risk assessments and obtain consent. We use sensible weather protocols (heat/cold/lightning) and adjust or postpone as required.
